Selected Quotations - Part 2
Don't
forget to pray today because God did not
forget to wake you up this morning.”
“True
intercession involves bringing the person, or the circumstance
that seems
to be crashing in on you, before God, until you are changed by His
attitude
toward that person or circumstance. People describe intercession by
saying, 'It is putting yourself in someone else’s place.' That is not
true!
Intercession is putting yourself in God’s place; it is having His mind
and His
perspective.”
“Naturally, we are inclined to be so mathematical and calculating that
we look
upon uncertainty as a bad thing... Certainty is the mark of the
common sense
life. To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways,
we do
not know what a day may bring forth. This is generally said with a sigh
of
sadness; it should rather be an expression of breathless expectation.”
“God does
not give us overcoming life; He gives us life as we
overcome.”
“Prayer
is the exercise of drawing on the grace of God.”
“You will
never cease to be the most amazed person on earth at what God
has
done for you on the inside.”
“What
hinders me from hearing is that I am taken up with other things.
It is
not that I will not hear God, but I am not devoted in the right place.
I am
devoted to things, to service, to convictions, and God may say what He
likes
but I do not hear Him.”
“Am I as
spontaneously kind to God as I used to be, or am I only
expecting God
to be kind to me? Am I full of the little things that cheer His heart
over me,
or am I whimpering because of how things are going with me?”
“When we
become advocates of a creed, something dies; we do not believe
God, we
only believe our belief about Him.”
“Let the
consequences of your obedience be left up to God.”
“All
God's revelations are sealed to us until they are opened to us by
obedience. You will never get them open by philosophy or thinking.
Immediately
you obey, a flash of light comes. Let God's truth work in you by
soaking in it,
not by worrying into it. Obey God in the thing He is at present showing
you,
and instantly the next thing is opened up.”
“The
degree of panic activity in my life is equal to the degree of my
lack of
personal spiritual experience.”
“Beware
of refusing to go to the funeral of your own independence.”
“Never
look for justice in this world, never cease to give it.”
“The best
measure of a spiritual life is not its ecstasies but its
obedience.”
“The
voice of the Spirit is as gentle as a breeze, so gentle that
unless you
are living in perfect communion with God, you never hear it.”
“We look
upon prayer simply as a means of getting things for ourselves,
but the
biblical purpose of prayer is that we may get to know God Himself.”
“The
yardstick of a saint is God Himself, not estimated usefulness. It
is the
work that God does through us that counts, not what we do for him.”
“The
whole meaning of prayer is that we may know God.”
“We have to take the first step
as though there were no God. It is no
use to
wait for God to help us, He will not: but immediately we arise we find
He is
there.”
